Everyone in Little Heath today is feeling a little sad because Mrs Costi is leaving us for a while. She is going for a lovely reason as she is having a baby. All the staff are nearly as excited as she is with the anticipation of its arrival but we are going to miss her. I will let you know what she has as soon as we find out and I am sure she will be popping in to see us accompanied by her new arrival. As many of you know I love babies and I am going to make sure that I am first in line to have a cuddle.

I could tell that many of the children were a little worried today as they went home because many of them have received their annual school report. Many of them do not need to worry as they have really tried their best with their learning and that is all we can ask of anybody. Those that could work a little harder (and they know who they are) should take note of the comments made and really make an effort to ensure that they achieve their potential. We do ask that you return the slip as quickly as possible to us so that we know you have received the report and if any of you would like to discuss the report in more detail please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher.

Next week it is ‘World Book Day’ on Thursday and it is a day that we all really look forward to in school. We have done themes over the year but this year we are returning to an old one of ours which is to let the children come to school dressed as their favourite book character and also bring in their favourite book. Some of the children have told me that their favourite book is on their Kindle and they have asked if they can bring that in. I am quite happy for them to do so as long as they are responsible for their own Kindle.

That is all for now. The first week back after a holiday day can sometimes feel longer than normal but this week has flown by. The warmer weather helped at the beginning of the week but unfortunately it has got a little colder again –and ‘Doris ‘ did not help either. I am sure that we will all be able to enjoy the weekend despite the cold and I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday.

Friday 10 February 2017

I do feel like I have been a part time employee this week because I have been on so many courses but I have been working – I have not started the half -term holiday early! I did miss the ‘Open Afternoon’ and I do not like being out of school when parents are visiting but I had to attend the training that I was on so it was unavoidable. I did have had lots of positive feedback about the afternoon though.

I was at the ‘Sharing Assembly’ on Monday which I always enjoy but I have to say that I was particularly impressed this time with how well the children presented themselves. It is a nerve – wracking experience for a small child to stand up and speak in front of a whole room of people and the children did themselves proud. I look forward to the next assembly just before Easter.

I also managed to attend the two ‘Valentine Discos’ which were enjoyed by everyone who attended.  It is good to have a fun activity just before a holiday and it is good for the children to socialise together out of the classroom. I would like to thank all the members of the PTA for organising the event and I would also like to thank all of my teachers for helping to run the discos. A special mention should go to our resident DJ Mr. Spring who had to come back from the course with me and put together his ‘set’. As always he did a brilliant job for us. Calvin Harris should be looking over his shoulder.

We have next week off and I do find it amazing that half term holiday is here already –but then we have only had a 5 week half-term. I am sure we will all still enjoy the week.  I always feel very optimistic after this break because all the days are getting longer and we actually start going home in daylight which is always uplifting. I hope you all have a relaxing break and I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 20th February.

Friday 3 February 2017

I had to double check my dates when I realised that half term is at the end of next week. I know that this has been a short half- term but the fact that it is already February is unbelievable –it is going to be Easter before we know it. It is good to think that warm weather is just around the corner (hopefully).

It has been quite a straightforward week in school this week but there are plenty of events to look forward to next week. We start off on Monday with our Sharing Assembly which is always something I enjoy as I look forward to seeing all the children share work they are proud of. Then on Wednesday we have our ‘Open afternoon’ when all parents can come and share the learning that the children have covered this half term – even though it has just been a short one. On Thursday we are holding our annual ‘Valentines Discos’. KS1 starts at 5.00pm until 6.00pm and then the KS2 event starts at 6.15pm – 7.15pm. The entrance is £3 which also includes a snack and a drink and there will be a ‘Valentine’s Raffle’ for which the children will need some extra money. The children always enjoy this event as we also include some games as well as dancing so I hope to see as many of them there as possible.

Next Thursday is also the closing date for getting the forms back for the Rotary Sponsored Swim.  As I said in the letter that I sent out earlier this is a really good event for the children to take part in and it raises money for both charity and the school. I hope that many children decide they would like to take part in this. If they do not have a team they do not need to worry because if they return the form showing an interest we will find a team to put them in.

I will be out of school next Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday on courses (but I will be back for the Valentine’s Discos). If there is an issue you need to discuss, Mrs Zegallo will be in school or you can make an appointment to meet with me on my return.

Have a great weekend and I will see you all again on Monday.
